Effects of Acupuncture on Cholesterol, Antioxidant and Oxidant Parameters in Obese Women: Clinical Trials

Objective: Obesity has a profound adverse impact on health care systems. Acupuncture been shown to have beneficial effects obesity. The aim of this study is investigate the acupuncture serum oxidative stress parameters in obese women. Material and Methods: During study, 20 patients had treatment, as control group, sham treatment. Serum samples were taken from each patient before first session at end 10th levels total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) low-density (LDL) cholesterol, malondialdehyde (MDA), advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), activity superoxide dismutase enzyme (SOD) glutathione peroxidase (GPx) measured. Results: Changes TG, HDL, MDA, AOPP SOD after treatment compared both treated groups found insignificant (p>0.05). On other hand, TC LDL observed decrease significantly comparison before-treatment values (p<0.05). In addition this, GPx increased only result Conclusion: results our indicated that may be effective reducing increasing antioxidant enzymes.
